How Mary Kamau's Step of Faith Transformed 31,000 Lives

Day 8
One of my favorite bible verses comes from Matthew 14:22-33. The disciples were out in a boat when the sea got rough. Around 4am they saw something out on water and thought it was a ghost but soon realized it was Jesus when he spoke words of comfort. Peter wanted to make sure it was really Jesus and asked to go out on the water and meet him. Jesus said, “Come On!” Peter was the second person to walk on water! While he kept his focus on Jesus he did great, but when he looked around and saw the waves moving beneath his feet he was overcome with fear and began to sink.
Mary Kamau saw a need in the Mathare slums, climbed out of the boat, and listened to Jesus, “Come On…and start a school for the neediest children!” What began with 50 students in one school has grown to 37 schools in two countries, with over 31,000 students. As the waves have been moving beneath her feet she has kept her eyes on Jesus for 25 years.
Walking the streets in Bondeni and the dirt roads of Chumani and seeing the many obstacles she and her husband Wallace have overcome, is truly a work of God. They have impacted tens of thousands of students and their families. They have kept their eyes on Jesus and have not been overcome by the waves moving beneath their feet.
This week we have gotten out of the boat and walked on water with the students, teachers, and social workers. While the waves beneath our feet have been rough at times we have kept our eyes on Jesus to ensure we accomplish what we set out to do one child at a time. There is so much more that needs to be done and Missions of Hope International needs your support. If you sponsor a student please send a food basket once a month and a uniform twice a year. If you do not sponsor a child please prayerfully consider doing so. You will truly make a difference in the life of a family.
